That scene puts the audience in a familiar place that those who have played the game would also immediately recognize, while simultaneously turning it on its head.ĭuring that scene, we see Joel ( Pedro Pascal), Tess ( Anna Torv), and Ellie ( Bella Ramsey) being tested for the cordyceps virus. Where the adaptation does deviate is instead related to how it connects to the final scene of the premiere. Co-creators of the series, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, stick pretty much exactly to the source material when it comes to this particular scene, as perhaps the old adage of "you don't mess with perfection" comes into play.
